Refurbishment of module A

This project also includes the creation of a new area exclusively for public transport, located in the outer arrivals area with a privileged location, easily visible to users. This space integrates the different public transport services of the island, such as EMT and TIB, offering an efficient and accessible solution. This initiative not only promotes the use of public transport, but also contributes to reducing road congestion and CO2 emissions, encouraging users to opt for public transport.

New passport control (module A)

The extension of Module A on the west side is intended to install 2 more walkways that will connect the module with the aircraft, offering a better service to airlines and handling companies, as well as to passengers, who board and disembark directly on the aircraft, without the need to use a bus, thus reducing the number of vehicles traveling on the airport apron and, consequently, contributing to the reduction of the carbon footprint.

Upcoming improvements

Reorganization of the check-in floor

The project includes a reorganization of the departures floor to create an open-plan area that is more comfortable for both passengers and staff. The escalators that previously led to the now-defunct security controls will be removed, as they are no longer in use. Additionally, the project includes the redistribution and renovation of airline and handling offices, and the addition of two check-in counters to each row to improve service quality. A new vertical communications core is also planned, connecting for the first time the building’s three levels (arrivals, check-in, and the access corridor to the car park) via two elevators, two escalators, and one conventional staircase.

Elevated walkway between car park and terminal

The construction of an elevated walkway is planned to connect the general car park with the terminal building. This aims to create a smoother journey for passengers moving between the two facilities, and to reduce pedestrian traffic in the busy external arrivals area, where there is a high volume of ground transport vehicles.

New terrace after security checks

The project also includes the adaptation of a terrace that was previously located before the old security controls. As a result of the renovation, it will now become part of the new commercial area located after the security checkpoint. Passengers will be able to enjoy this space for rest, leisure, and dining while they wait for their flight.

The extension of Module D on the west side is intended to install 3 more boarding bridges that will connect the module with the aircraft, offering a better service to airlines and handling companies as well as to passengers, who board and disembark directly on the aircraft, without the need to use a bus, thus reducing the number of vehicles traveling on the airport apron and, consequently, contributing to the reduction of the carbon footprint.
