Improvements made

Elevated walkway between car park and terminal

Construction of an elevated walkway connecting the main parking area and the terminal building, with the aim of creating a smoother journey for passengers traveling between the two facilities. This will reduce the number of pedestrians in the arrivals area, which typically sees a high volume of ground transportation vehicles.

New western area of module D

The extension of Module D on the west side is intended to install 3 more boarding bridges that will connect the module with the aircraft, offering a better service to airlines and handling companies as well as to passengers, who board and disembark directly on the aircraft, without the need to use a bus, thus reducing the number of vehicles traveling on the airport apron and, consequently, contributing to the reduction of the carbon footprint.

External transport area

The airport remodeling project also includes the renovation of its commercial offer with the creation of a new space that improves the airport’s current retail and restaurant offer, and provides added value to the current offer. It also incorporates a large outdoor terrace for passengers to enjoy while waiting for their flight.

Refurbishment of module A

This project also includes the creation of a new area exclusively for public transport, located in the outer arrivals area with a privileged location, easily visible to users. This space integrates the different public transport services of the island, such as EMT and TIB, offering an efficient and accessible solution. This initiative not only promotes the use of public transport, but also contributes to reducing road congestion and CO2 emissions, encouraging users to opt for public transport.

The extension of Module A on the west side is intended to install 2 more walkways that will connect the module with the aircraft, offering a better service to airlines and handling companies, as well as to passengers, who board and disembark directly on the aircraft, without the need to use a bus, thus reducing the number of vehicles traveling on the airport apron and, consequently, contributing to the reduction of the carbon footprint.

Upcoming improvements

Reorganization of the check-in floor

The project includes reorganizing the Departures area to create a more open and comfortable space for both passengers and staff. The escalators that led to the former security checkpoints, which are currently unused, will be removed. The project also includes the redistribution and renovation of airline and ground handling offices, and the addition of two check-in counters in each check-in area to allow airlines to offer improved service. A new vertical communications core will also be constructed, connecting all three floors of the building (Arrivals, Check-in, and the parking access corridor) for the first time, using two elevators, two escalators, and a conventional staircase.

New terrace after security checks

The project also includes the adaptation of a terrace that was previously located before the old security controls. As a result of the renovation, it will now become part of the new commercial area located after the security checkpoint. Passengers will be able to enjoy this space for rest, leisure, and dining while they wait for their flight.
